DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) -- The village of Mechanicsburg is changing policies within the police department.

Our partners at the Urbana Daily Citizen report that Mechanicsburg police officers will be prohibited from carrying tasers. Mechanicsburg Mayor Jason Adelsberger says the change is needed until the police chief, village council and himself can review different policies and procedures.

For the time being, Mechanicsburg will not give or receive assistance to North Lewisburg or St. Paris. According to our partner, the village is wanting a mutual aid agreement to be met before reversing their decision.

If someone has an arrest warrant from outside of the village, Mechanicsburg police will not be working to pursue those.

Individuals that are pulled over during a traffic stop are able to keep their vehicle from being impounded, according to Adelsberger.

"After a traffic stop, we will provide at least 2 hours to have a vehicle picked up before we must impound it," Adelsberger said. "Vehicles must be otherwise legal to drive (proper plates, insured, etc) and not being held for evidence."

In an effort to increase transparency with the department, the mayor says the village is considering the creation of a use of force review committee.
